Manaf, tell us how you ended up in Sweden?
I’m originally from Syria but raised in Qatar and Bahrain, where I also studied at the University. I worked in marketing and e- commercefiled in Qatar but when the war in Syria forced my fiancée who lived in Syria to leave the countryso we came together to Sweden 2 years ago.
How has it been to look for a job in Sweden?
It has been very difficult. When things were solved with a residence permit, I set a goal to find 10 jobs a week and I searched more than 100 jobs but did not have any interviews. Then I started working as a volunteer swimming coach and that was a part-time job. I also went on the “KortaVägen” at Stockholm university, where I got many good tips on job searching.
Now through Novare Potential you will work with e-commerce at H&M. To work at H&M has been a dream for many years, why?
In Bahrain, I had a friend who worked with H&M and told of how H&M was anemployer and how constantly they develop their staff. I have a keen interest in marketing and want to develop and learn as much as possible. I also like the fact that H&M is such a value-driven company.
During your first year at H&M will be supported by mentors from Novare potential. What does that mean for you?
I know a lot about marketing, but not so much about how the things work at a Swedish workplace. The fact that the mentorsfrom Novare Potential are very professional and have a strong experience in Swedish industry is a great security for me. It makes me feel that I have a support that will help me succeed and gives me more confidence.
Since I came to Sweden I have felt quite lonely. My family and friends are not here and now I feel that there is someone who makes me feel less lonely and keeps me on the back.
It was also through Novare potential and H&M that I finally got an interview and showed what I can do, I’m very happy.
What do you dream for your future in Sweden?
Particularly now, I will continue to work and create a good foundation in Sweden. I also want to finish my master, marry my fiancée, get an apartment in Stockholm and a dream that I have is to live near my parents again.
